equivalent thereto with at least two papers in Mathematics/ Computer Science/
Statistics/Operational
Research at graduation/ higher level.
OR
(b) Any Bachelor’s Degree examination under 10+2+3 scheme of examination of the University
of Delhi or
an examination recognized as equivalent thereto with at least two papers in
Mathematics/Computer
Science/Operational Research/ Statistics.
- Applicants who have graduated under 10+2+3 scheme or an equivalent scheme
are eligible
for admission.
- The candidates who are appearing in the final year examination of the degree
on the
basis of which admission is sought are also eligible to apply.
Relaxation will be given to the candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC category
as per the
University rules.

- Minimum Qualification: Master’s Degree in Operational Research or an allied subject
with at least two papers in Operational Research.
- Minimum Marks: 55% marks or equivalent CGPA. For allied subjects, 60% or above
marks
in Operational Research papers.
- Relaxation: OBC/SC/ST candidates are eligible for a 5% relaxation in minimum marks
as
per University rules.
How to Apply
- Mode: Online registration through the University Admission Portal for M.Phil./Ph.D.
admissions.
Selection Procedure
- Written Examination: Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) format; qualifying marks are
50%.
- Syllabus Split: 50% questions on Research Aptitude/Methodology and 50% on
subject-specific topics.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates based on the written exam will be invited for an
interview.
- Note: Common written exam for both M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs in Operational
Research. No TA/DA will be provided.
Syllabus for Ph.D. Entrance Examination
1. Operational Research
- Linear Programming: Formulation, Simplex Method, Duality, Complementary Slackness.
- Vector Analysis: Linear independence and dependence.
- Optimization: Convex functions, Lagrange theorem, KKT conditions, Quadratic
programming.
- Inventory Models: Economic lot size, production quantity, reorder level, stochastic
models.
- Queueing Theory: M/M/1 and M/M/C models, Markovian input/service.
- Reliability: Definitions, multi-component systems, exponential and Weibull
distributions.
2. Research Methodology
- Research Ethics: Plagiarism, falsification, integrity, authorship issues.
- Statistical Tools: Measures, scaling techniques, probability, Bayes theorem.
- Sampling: Fundamentals, distributions, theory, estimation.
- Hypothesis Testing: Procedures, correlation, regression analysis.
